Established in 1959 at Timberline Lodge at Mount Hood, Oregon making us the oldest Search and Rescue Association in the United States.MRA is an organization of teams dedicated to saving lives through rescue and mountain safety education. With over 90 government authorized units, MRA has grown to become the critical mountain search and rescue PcSomRt.org resource in North America. BAMRU is field deployable for up to 72 hours for anyone in harm’s way in all terrain, all weather and all seasons.

Separately, members of the team were involved in a multi-agency search for a missing person in Killarney National Park on St Stephen’s Day, which ended with the recovery of a body. The team urged anyone in need of assistance on the hills not to hesitate and to contact 999 or 112 and ask for mountain rescue. The team also stressed the importance of having a fully charged mobile phone and urged hillwalkers to consider bringing a power bank with them in their rucksack in case the phone battery runs low.

Operations range from searches for missing or lost individuals in the high Sierra to communities affected by wildfires. In addition to mountains, we search along coastal cliffs and in other rural and wilderness environments. Our team is composed of rock climbers, mountaineers, backpackers and backcountry skiers. Our members are skilled to operate efficiently and safely in technical terrain on rock, snow and ice. BAMRU is an accredited member of the Mountain Rescue Association and a FEMA and California OES Type I search and rescue resource.

SEARCH AND RESCUE – TBT

Malibu Mountain Rescue Team, Inc. is the team’s non-profit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department provides the team with our rescue vehicles, but it does not provide all of the rescue gear required. Rescue operations conducted by the Malibu Search and Rescue Team are under the guidance of the Sheriff of Los Angeles County. We also respond anywhere in the state or country if requested to do so through the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA). “Our volunteers, along with some of our trustees and supporters, have also taken part in many fundraising activities.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to saving lives through mountain rescue and safety education. It has been a member unit of the Sheriff’s Department Reserve Forces Bureau since 1956. The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by reserve Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies (all volunteer).

The team conducts weekend patrols of the mountain areas within its jurisdiction, namely the 20 canyons behind Altadena and Pasadena. Members are assigned weekend duty on a rotating basis, which averages once every month. The warning follows a call-out to two hillwalkers who had become lost in the MacGillycuddy Reeks in Kerry on Sunday night. The team was tasked at 7pm to help the pair who had become lost at Cragfast near the top of the Hag’s Tooth Ridge. The teams were able to successfully track down the trio and gave them shelter so they could be assessed by a medical technician.
